Retention Schedules Project Underway!
Released on 14/01/2010
The Scottish Council on Archives is pleased to announce that the Retention Schedules project is underway. Heather Jack of HJBS Ltd and Claire Johnson of CJ-IMC are working together in consultation with a Focus Group of Scottish Local Authority records managers and archivists to ensure that the project exploits existing expertise, Scottish schedules and other relevant resources.
Given the tight timeline of the project not all records series will be covered. Priority will be given to the series representing highest value or risk, for example, social care, planning and building control, and also those which have a generic application across local authorities, for example, contracts, HR, Finance. A final report will include recommendations on how best to ensure ongoing development and maintenance of the schedules. Once completed, the generic retention schedules will be made available on our website.
The development of these vital generic retention schedules will aid the efficiency and effectiveness of local authority records managers. The first Focus Group meeting proved a great success and a project collaboration resource will shortly be launched on this website to aid consultation, discussion and schedule review. We are keen to hear from anyone wishing to know more about the project, or those who would like to participate in the focus group. Please get in touch through the ‘Contact Us’ page or email the consultants - Heather Jack – email@example.com or Claire Johnson - firstname.lastname@example.org .
